Privacy Policy
last updated: April 2026
QuickWheel is designed to be a local-first application. Your configuration, wheels, and keyboard shortcuts live on your own Mac. This page explains the limited circumstances in which the app or this website touches the network.
Who is responsible?
The data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is Simon Schoen. See the imprint for contact details.
What the desktop app sends
- License validation. When you activate a license key, and periodically thereafter (every 7–14 days), QuickWheel contacts our license server with: your license key, a machine hash derived from your Mac’s hardware identifiers, the app version, and the OS version. The server returns whether the license is valid.
- Update checks. QuickWheel uses the Sparkle framework to check for new versions. Sparkle fetches an appcast XML file over HTTPS; the request includes your app version and OS version. You can disable automatic checks in Settings.
- Nothing else. No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports, no usage statistics. Your wheels, segments, pasted snippets, and keyboard activity never leave your machine.
What this website collects
The website is hosted on a virtual private server operated by the data controller. Standard web server access logs may be retained briefly for security and debugging purposes. These logs include IP address, request path, user agent, and referrer, and are automatically deleted after 14 days.
The site does not use third-party analytics, tracking pixels, marketing cookies, or embedded content from third parties.
Cookies
No cookies are set by the website at this time.
When you buy a license
Payment is processed by a third-party payment provider. We receive your email address (to deliver the license key), your country (for tax compliance), and an order ID. Credit card details are handled by the payment provider and never touch our systems.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, port, and delete your personal data, as well as to object to its processing. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
Data retention
- Access logs: up to 14 days
- License records: for the duration of the license plus 2 years for tax purposes
- Email correspondence: until you ask us to delete it
Changes
If this policy materially changes, the “last updated” date at the top will change and existing licensees will be notified by email.
